Mankato Area Public Schools has openings for a Special Education Paraeducators. Under the direction of an assigned supervisor, the Intervention Paraeducator provides intensive behavioral, emotional, and instructional support to special education students. Working collaboratively with general and special education teachers, this role delivers targeted individual and small-group instruction aligned with student Individualized Education Plans (IEPs). Responsibilities include tracking and reporting student progress, attending to physical and health needs, and performing essential clerical and classroom management duties.
Your Role Will Include
Specific Responsibilities
- Implementing individualized behavior intervention plans.
- Utilizing evidence-based intervention and de-escalation strategies.
- Supporting students during transitions throughout the school day.
- Reinforcing self-regulation, coping, and replacement skills.
- Monitoring behavior and maintaining required documentation.
- Supporting community-based instruction and transition programming.
- Assisting during crisis situations using approved district procedures.
- Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to support student success.
- Participating in specialized behavioral intervention training.
Qualifications
- 60 semester credits (equivalent to two years full-time at an institute of higher education) OR An Associate's degree (AA, AS, or AAS) OR Passing the Paraeducator assessment before the first day of employment.
- Experience working with students with behavioral needs preferred.
- Calm, patient, and solution-focused.
- Strong relationship-building skills.
- Comfortable working in dynamic environments.
- Willingness to complete specialized behavioral training.
- Pass a job-related physical screening and a comprehensive criminal background check prior to employment.
Salary and Benefits
- Pay starts at $18.50, up to $19.72 per hour (based on experience in a public school setting).

Locations, Hours, and Schedule
- Elementary (Franklin, Hoover, Roosevelt, Rosa Parks): beginning September 10, 2026; school hours 8:00 am - 2:30 pm; full-time or part-time, flexible scheduling available.
- Middle School (Dakota Meadows, Prairie Winds): beginning September 9, 2026; school hours 8:35 am - 3:25 pm; full-time or part-time, flexible scheduling available.
- High School (East, West): beginning September 8, 2026; school hours 8:45 am - 3:35 pm; full-time or part-time, flexible scheduling available.
